About RIO and Nancy Joeckel
Beginning in 1978, Nancy developed the RIO Method
from a base of functional kinesiology, neurophysiology, and biomechanics.
RIO, which stands for Reciprocal Inhibition Optimization, is grounded in current neuroscience. The RIO Method spotlights the natural proprioceptive feedback that continuously streams to the brain from muscles and joints. Harnessing the brain's neuroplasticity, RIO's techniques show the brain how to operate joints and muscles more effectively – instantly. RIO then triggers the brain to immediately adopt these improvements as its new normal.
The uniqueness of Nancy's effort drew support from prominent neurophysiologist Karl Pribram (Stanford University), robotics expert Ernest Kent (National Bureau of Standards Robotics Group Leader), and dozens of physicians, biomechanics specialists, and functional kinesiologists.
Nancy has consulted to the U.S. Army as well as medical and sports organizations and has served on the extension faculty of several colleges and foundations. Her private clients have included professional and elite athletes and dancers, weekend warriors, trauma cases, people with common aches and pains, and children as young as 6 months.
Clients often arrive in Nancy's care because nothing else has worked for them. The tougher the problem, the more it fuels her curiosity and motivation.
